Ambattur Industrial Estate was set up by the Tamil Nadu government in 1964 as the city's second industrial estate: about 1,300 acres and over 1,500 small and medium units, mostly auto components, garments and engineering, now joined by IT parks. It has its own post office (600058, separate from Ambattur town's 600053) and bus terminus, and the Chennai Bypass runs through it. Work is factory sheds, shop floors, internal roads and yards, which take 40mm, GSB and WMM besides 20mm and M-Sand.
