About G.K.M. Colony
G.K.M. Colony (General Kumaramangalam Colony) is a sub-neighbourhood of Perambur named after former Army chief P. P. Kumaramangalam, first set up as housing for ex-military personnel and stretching from Perambur Loco Works station towards Villivakkam station. Its other name, Butt Medu, comes from a mud hill the army used for shooting practice, which was levelled for housing after the military camps left in the early 1970s.
