Iyyappanthangal is on Mount–Poonamallee Road about 2 km west of Porur junction, in Kancheepuram district; its village panchayat also takes in Kolathuvancheri and Thelliyar Agaram. It is known for the six-acre MTC bus terminus opened in 1994, and it has a station on Chennai Metro Phase 2's Poonamallee–Porur–Vadapalani line.
